My name is Murray Corbe Murray, and I'm a junior at The Putney School of Putney, Vermont. This year, I was able to take a class called Independent Topics in Life Science, where I designed a lab surrounding insect succession, as my uttermost dream is to go into the field of forensic entomology when I'm an adult.
This lab involves me putting a calf carcass into a cage in the woods surrounding my school and visiting it daily to log the insects on and around the body. I plan to pin the insects found at the site and hopefully make some detailed species accounts of the key necrophages insects of Vermont. I am eager to use this opportunity to explore a passion of mine in a hands-on way, and hope to share my findings and process with you all!
I will log all the progress of this experiment in the blog here on my website, so be sure to follow along in this journey of mine if you're interested!
