Yesterday (4/2/25), I went out to the field again to check and see what insects may be on the body, and (to my surprise) there were none that I could see! Unfortunately, I do not fully understand the actual mechanics of how insects detect the body based on chemicals released post-mortem, so I don't have much to go on in regards to making a hypothesis, though I do suspect it has to do with the frozen state of the calf. This is certainly a topic I will have to educate myself on further!

I also put a QR code (Fig. 2) out along with the cage. As the pathway to it is marked with flags, I suspect it won't be long before someone finds it, and hopefully this will somewhat calm their worries!
Overall yesterday was not entirely too eventful, though I am still super excited for whenever the insect succession picks up!
